Spring 2025
This course is designed to prepare students for further exegetical work in the Old Testament and presupposes a working knowledge of two semesters of Hebrew grammar. Students will translate Hebrew texts selected from the various genres of the Old Testament, including law, prophecy, and wisdom. In addition to learning how to make use of standard reference works and lexicons, students will also learn the basics of Hebrew verb syntax and discourse analysis. The class will also incorporate review of the important Hebrew verb paradigms covered in the prerequisite for this course.

Those who use BibleWorks will not need to purchase Holladay, since it is integrated into that program’s lexicon. A copy of the Hebrew Bible (BHS) will be necessary since BibleWorks does not offer full access to the Masorah parva, the Masorah magna, or the critical apparatus found in BHS.
