Trinity Anglican Seminary

Master’s Degrees & Diploma Programs

Primarily for students who have already completed a four-year bachelor’s program, a Master’s degree from Trinity prepares a Christian foundation for the work students do in their places of worship, for further graduate study, and for engaging the marketplace or the mission field with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Trinity offers five Diploma programs: the Diploma in Anglican Studies (DAS), the Diploma in Christian Ministry (DCM), the Diploma in Christian Catechesis (DCC), the Diploma in Diaconal Studies (DDS), and the Diploma in Evangelism (DEV).

 

A Diploma from Trinity is a shortened course of Master’s level study, focused on one particular area of theological formation.  Trinity offers two Diploma programs: the Diploma of Anglican Studies (DAS) and the Diploma of Christian Ministries (DCM).

Please note that our Admissions Office currently utilizes an online portal called Campus Cafe for our applicants. The two essays are (1) a spiritual autobiography and (2) an academic writing sample. See the Application Checklist for further details and essay prompts.

Official transcripts are required from all post-high school institutions (colleges, universities, etc.) you have attended. Official transcripts must be sent directly from those institutions to the Admissions Office at Trinity.  Unofficial or student transcripts are not accepted.

For those seeking ordination within the Anglican or Episcopal Church: if you are a Postulant of any diocese or judicatory, please have a letter from your bishop confirming this sent to the Admissions Office. If you are NOT a Postulant of any diocese, or if you are still in process with any diocese, please have a completed copy of the Church Endorsement Form sent to the Admissions Office.

For those seeking ordination within the North American Lutheran Church (NALC): if you are an entranced or endorsed NALC candidate, please submit a copy of your letter from the Candidacy Committee to the Admissions Office. If you have NOT yet been entranced, please have a completed copy of the Church Endorsement Form sent to the Admissions Office.

For those seeking ordination within other denominations or churches: if you are seeking ordination within your own denomination, please have a copy of the Church Endorsement Form sent to the Admissions Office.

All international applicants are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and have their official test scores submitted to the Admissions Office. The TOEFL iBT is strongly preferred.

The applicant should normally score a minimum total of 80 across all four areas (Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing), representing proficient skill for graduate academic endeavor. A total score of 90 or higher is preferable. Applicants scoring Low, Limited, or Weak in any category are ordinarily not offered admission. – further instructions available here.

When your application file is completed, it will be submitted for preliminary review. After the preliminary review process is completed, you may be contacted by the Admissions Office to schedule an interview. Interviews may be conducted in person, via telephone, or via video conference call at the discretion of the Director of Admissions.

Doctor of Ministry (DMin) Program

Trinity’s Doctor of Ministry (DMin) program seeks to enhance students’ capacities for studying pastoral ministry by engaging them in substantive and critical theological reflection on concrete pastoral situations in their particular contexts. The intent of this area of study is to strengthen mission and ministry in service of a more fruitful Church, both locally and around the world.  The DMin in the theological world is akin to the MD in the realm of medicine.  Both of these professional degrees cultivate expertise in the practical realm.

Stanway Scholars Program

What is the Stanway Scholars Program?

The Stanway Scholars Program (formerly the Majority World Scholars Program) is a fellowship at Trinity Anglican Seminary for international students in the global Anglican Communion. Applicants who are offered admission to this fellowship are enrolled into one of two programs, depending on their academic qualifications: for those with a completed bachelor’s degree, the Master of Arts in Religion (MAR) program for a two-year course of study, or for those with a completed master’s degree, the Master of Sacred Theology (STM) program for a one-year course of study. These students take courses in residence at our campus in Ambridge, Pennsylvania, and are provided with a full scholarship (including tuition, transportation, room and board, and books). The program is designed to provide a high level of theological training to students desiring to teach the Bible and theology in their home country.

Applicants must submit a letter of approval for study at Trinity from their Bishop in the Anglican Communion, and how the Diocese will care for the needs of  the spouse and/or children if applicable, while the student is at Trinity. The applicant should also be able to articulate clearly how a Trinity degree will better equip them for a particular ministry in their home country. Trinity desires to admit to the program only those candidates who plan to return to their home country to be theological teachers.
