June Intensives 2025 – Week One – June 2-6, 2025
This course offers a literary, canonical, and theological introduction to the book of Proverbs. More than just ‘practical’ advice, Proverbs lays the groundwork for a mature and sophisticated “wisdom” needed to renew moral theology in an age that has forgotten how to think about Christian ethics.
Brian Hughes serves as the rector of Holy Spirit Anglican Church in San Diego, CA. Brian began at the church as a curate in 2012, and was made rector in 2016. Brian is a graduate of Trinity Anglican Seminary (MDiv 2012) and of Durham University (PhD 2023). Brian’s doctoral research was on Proverbs 8 as Christian Scripture, and his dissertation was published as Wisdom in the World: Toward a Renewed Christian Reading of Proverbs 8 (Wipf & Stock: 2024). Since graduating from Trinity in 2012, Brian has taught Biblical Hebrew, Old Testament, and Hermeneutics as an adjunct professor. Brian and his wife, Mandy, have three children.
