Christina Bieber Lake

Dr. Christina Bieber Lake is the Clyde S. Kilby Professor of English Emerita at Wheaton College, where she taught contemporary American literature and literary theory for twenty-five years. A Flannery O'Connor scholar, she has published widely on the incarnational power of fiction to defy gnostic illusions of selfhood in an increasingly virtual world.

Dr. Lake's most recent book, the award-winning Beyond the Story: American Literary Fiction and the Limits of Materialism, argues that storytelling is inherently theological. She also writes weekly on spiritual transformation through the power of literature at Art & Soul.

Dr. Lake enjoys leading faculty development workshops and retreats. She lives in Denton, Texas, with her husband, the Rev. Dr. Stephen Lake.
