Disciple-making in the Anglican Tradition

January 2026 Intensive – Week One – January 5-9, 2026

Course Description

In his classic book by the same title, C.S. Lewis tells readers that “mere Christianity” is only the hallway—you may enter through it, but must eventually find a room in the house. Lewis’s metaphor invites a question: what is the Anglican room like? How does one live well in it? Put another way, what ideas and practices guide discipleship in our tradition? Drawing on historical and theological perspectives, we will consider the characteristics of a robustly Anglican approach to making mature disciples of Christ.

Instructor: Paul Gutacker

Paul Gutacker serves as Executive Director of Brazos Fellows, an Anglican community in Waco, TX committed to a common rule of life. He holds the Ph.D. in History (Baylor University) and a M.A. in Theological Studies and Th.M. in History of Christianity (Regent College). He has written several books, including The Old Faith in a New Nation: American Protestants and the Christian Past (Oxford University Press, 2023) and, most recently Practicing Life Together: A Common Rule for Christian Growth (Moody Publishers, 2025). Paul, Paige, and their four children enjoy living in Waco and sharing life with the Brazos Fellows. When he’s not teaching, he enjoys sharing his favorite pastimes with their kids: cooking, fishing, reading, and rooting for the Buffalo Bills.
