Course Description

This course will continue the study of Christian theology with attention to the Person of Jesus Christ and His Work.

The Rev. Dr. Stephen Noll

 

Stephen Noll is an Anglican theologian, missionary, and educator. He served as Professor of Biblical Studies and Academic Dean at Trinity School for Ministry from 1979 to 2000. In 1999, he and his wife Peggy sensed a missionary call to Uganda and were sponsored as missionaries with Episcopal World Mission (now Global Teams). From 2000-2010, he served as Vice Chancellor (President) of Uganda Christian University in Mukono, Uganda. Upon his retirement and return to Pittsburgh in 2010, he was made Professor Emeritus of Trinity School for Ministry.

Dr. Noll earned the B.A. in History from Cornell University (1968), the M.A. from Graduate Theological Union (1970) and the M.Div. from Church Divinity School of the Pacific (1971). He received the Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from the University of Manchester UK in 1979. Honorary degrees include the Doctor of Divinity from Nashotah House Theological Seminary (2008) and Trinity School for Ministry (2021).

Dr. Noll was ordained deacon in 1971 and priest in 1972 and has resided in the Diocese of Pittsburgh since 1979. He was Chairman of the ACNA Task Force on Marriage, the Family and the Single Life and has authored Marriage According to the Book of Common Prayer (2021). He was elected to the Executive Committee of the ACNA from 2023 to the present.

In 2021-22, he served as Interim Pastor of Redeemer Anglican Church in the North Boroughs of Pittsburgh and has written a book titled Millennial People, Boomer Priest: My Year Eldering a Young Congregation. He recently served as Interim CEO of Anglican House Publishers (2023-24).

Dr. Noll has been active in GAFCON movement as a member of the Statement Group at GAFCON 2008, 2013 and 2018 and Convener of the Gafcon Task Force on Women in the Episcopate (2015-2020). He has written two current books about global Anglican affairs: The Global Anglican Communion (2018) and The Gospel of God and the Church of God (2020).

Stephen Noll has been married to Peggy for 58 years and has 5 children and 7 grandchildren. They live in Sewickley, PA.
