The Book of Acts

January Intensives – Week One – January 6-10, 2025

This course is an exegetical and theological study of the Acts of the Apostles, a unique document in Christian canon and one with far-reaching significance for the church’s self-understanding. Our course will be devoted to learning to read this foundational text and to interpreting it historically, canonically, theologically, and missionally.

Instructor: The Rev. Dr. David Smith

David Smith is an Anglican priest and the rector of Bread of Life Anglican Church in Ithaca, NY.  He holds a Ph.D. in New Testament from Duke University, and his most recent publications include Luke and the Jewish Other: Politics of Identity in the Third Gospel (Routledge, 2023) and several academic articles dealing with the interpretation of New Testament texts.  He is currently writing a book on ecumenism in the early church.
