The Church and the Culture: Mission in Modern America

Course Description

This course is an introduction to Christian engagement in mission and ministry in contemporary North American culture, based on methods of practical theology. It will emphasize the local parish as an outpost of the Kingdom of God transforming lives and neighborhoods. Among the cultural issues we will explore are: civil religion, media, entertainment, technology, and consumerism. We will consider how these cultural issues affect the practice of Christian ministry in America through cultural apologetics, evangelism, catechesis, and mission.
