Reports to:  Vice President of Administration

Time Requirement:  

Months: August-June

Days: Monday-Friday

Hours: 25-29 hrs/wk, 8:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m.

Occasional evenings and Saturdays (for events)

Non-exempt (eligible for overtime)

 

 Job Summary:  

The Kitchen Manager leads the Seminary’s food service ministry, creating an environment of hospitality, fellowship, and care through the preparation and service of shared meals. This role combines the practical management of kitchen operations with the relational ministry of community building, nourishing both body and spirit by providing excellent, safe, and efficient food service while mentoring student workers in the values of teamwork, generosity, and hospitality.

 

Principal Duties:  

Meal Service and Planning

  • Plan, prepare, and serve lunches Monday through Thursday during the academic year
  • Coordinate occasional meals for special events, conferences, events, board meetings, and campus gatherings
  • Plan menus that reflect quality, variety, and stewardship of resources, considering dietary needs when possible
  • Weekly (Friday) shopping for ingredients and supplies

 

Kitchen and Food Safety Management

  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe kitchens in accordance with food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ensure compliance with local health regulations and maintain food service certifications
  • Oversee inventory, ordering, and storage of food and supplies in coordination with the VP of Administration

 

Supervision and Mentoring

  • Supervise and schedule kitchen assistants and student workers, providing direction, training, and encouragement
  • Cultivate a welcoming, team-oriented environment that models the Seminary’s values of service and community
  • Provide opportunities for student workers to grow in responsibility and spiritual maturity through their work

 

Event Support

  • Collaborate with Seminary staff to provide food service for special events, conferences, and gatherings hosted by the Seminary

 

Administration

  • Prepare and manage the kitchen budget responsibly, tracking expenses and maintaining cost-effective operations
  • Coordinate with Facilities and Operations for maintenance and equipment needs

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience (3+ years preferred) in food service or kitchen management, preferably in an institutional, hospitality, or ministry-related setting
  • Current Pennsylvania food safety certification or ability to obtain certification upon hire
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with experience supervising others
  • Ability to plan menus, manage budgets, and coordinate multiple tasks efficiently
  • Commitment to the Seminary’s mission and to modeling servant leadership through daily work

 Working Conditions/Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to:

  • Stand and work for extended hours in potentially hot or cold surroundings
  • Navigate between two kitchens approximately ½ mile distance
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends during Seminary-hosted event
  • Lift up to 30lbs
