The Diploma in Anglican Studies is an 18 credit hour (6 courses) program made up of courses at the Master’s level. The hours earned in this Diploma Program can be applied to a MAR or MDIV degree. The Certificate in Anglican Studies is a non-credit version. The Certificate student would be enrolled in the same courses; the level of work, however, is tiered (less reading, reduced requirements), and the course graded on a pass/fail basis. Certificate courses cannot be applied to a Master’s degree. Residential students generally take 2-3 courses per term in Fall and Spring, supplementing as desired with January & June intensives.

Residential Pathway

The Residential Pathway offers full immersion in Trinity’s on-campus community, with a faster, full-time pace and a schedule built around classes, chapel, and daily formation. It is typically best for students who can relocate and want to move through their program with momentum, often finishing in a shorter overall timeline.

The Church Based Pathway

The Church-Based Pathway helps you stay rooted in your parish and diocese, integrating coursework with ongoing ministry, mentoring, and real-time leadership development where you already serve. It is typically best for students who need flexibility due to work, family, or ministry commitments, and who want formation that happens alongside the rhythms of local church life.

The Rev. Dr. Jukka Kääriäinen

President of the North American Lutheran Seminary

Beginning your journey

Greetings! My name is Jukka, and I am the president of the North American Lutheran Seminary. This is an exciting time to be a follower of Christ. Whether you are exploring vocational ministry, wanting to visit our NALS hub campus in Ambridge, PA, or preparing to apply as a student, our NALS team is here to help you discern God’s calling.

While confessionally Lutheran, we are generous toward other traditions within the Great Tradition and seek to form pastors, deacons, and servants for the Church who love the Lord, His Word, and His people. We would love to hear from you and discuss how we might partner with you.
